Easy ITR filing: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has pushed the last date for filing Income Tax Returns for the Assessment Year 2025–26 to September 15, 2025. Normally, the deadline is July 31, but this time it has been extended because of big changes made in the new ITR forms. The department said they need more time to get the systems ready and to roll out the updated filing tools for everyone. This gives more time to taxpayers, especially salaried people, to file their taxes properly.

Even though the filing deadline has been moved, employers still need to give out Form 16 by June 15. So salaried workers will already have their important tax document in hand. according to Business Today, Deepak Jain, who is the founder and CEO of TaxManager.in, shared that Form 16 plays a key role. It shows how much salary was earned, how much TDS was cut, and what deductions were claimed.

This yearthe form also includes some new details. People now need to tell their employers if they got any extra income like interest from savings or dividend money. For that, they have to fill out and give Form 12BAA. All this is being done so that income is reported properly and matches what the tax department has in its records.

Easy ITR filing: New Rules and Forms

There are many new rules this year that people should understand. One big change is about standard deductions. If someone files using the old regime, they still get ₹50,000 as a standard deduction. But if they use the new regime, it goes up to ₹75,000. Also, details under HRA and LTA must be filled out properly so that the right exemptions can be claimed. The forms now ask for more information to make sure that deductions are not claimed wrongly or without proof.

There’s also a brand-new section called Column 388A. This one tracks TDS and TCS from sources that are not salary-based. So if someone is getting income from other things like renting out a property or earning from a side job, this column will help match that data with the government’s system. It’s all about avoiding mistakes and making things more transparent.

Jain also explained that salaried people need to gather all important papers before they sit to file taxes. These include Form 16, Form 12BAA if needed, rent receipts, donation slips, and bank interest statements. It’s also a good idea to look at the AIS and TIS on the Income Tax portal. These reports show what the government already knows about a person’s income. If anything is missing or wrong, it can be fixed early, and that saves trouble later.

Choosing the Right Tax Regime

While these changes are there to make things smoother, taxpayers still need to be careful. Picking the wrong tax regime can either cost them more or cause them to miss out on savings. If someone has other income sources like property rent, capital gains, or freelance work, the filing gets more tricky. It’s important to understand the tax rules well and report everything correctly.
