Jabariya Jodi Movie Review: Sidharth Malhotra once again delivers a ‘Jabariya’ watch

Jabariya Jodi starring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra is a story which makes the lead cast choose between love and long term ambitions. Sidharth Malhotra as Abhay Singh runs a syndicate of kidnapping greedy grooms who demand dowry in Bihar’s Madhopur. He then forcefully marries them to girl stating it a surprise party.

Things take a change when his childhood sweetheart Babli (Parineeti) re-enters his life and now he has to choose between love and ambition.

From kidnappings followed by shotgun shaadis, Jabariya Jodi offers it all. Abhay who is at the top of the game ensures that groom demanding dowry is not spared of becoming a forced couple. It follows the concept of pakadwa Shaadi which is a real problem in parts of UP and Bihar.

The director has tried to tackle the social issue with humor which they succeeded in doing in the first half but the film is dragged towards the second half and the story becomes melodramatic, robbing the film of its humor or the impact for the message that it tries to deliver.

Although Parineeti Chopra is seen in a feisty avatar like her character Babli Bomb her transition from being a bomb to Beechari fails to convince us. The actors have given their best to the film but the disappointment comes from the writing part as it fails to sail the movie towards the end.

Other characters like Javed Jaffery and Sanjay Mishra are entertaining and impressive. Aparshakti Khurana like always a friend-zoned lover delivers a decent performance but his character is too good to be real.

The movie, however, starts on a decent note but every minute of the film will seem like a lifetime because of the dragged and forced turnout of it in the latter half. The melodramatic turns in the film will make you feel that it’s a jabariya watch.
