Jammu and Kashmir: Snow hits power lines, students write exams under candle light

As Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir received the season’s first snowfall on Saturday, most of the Valley plunged into darkness. The snowfall caused major damage to electric lines and almost all districts in Kashmir were without electricity.

Meanwhile, heart-wrenching photos of school students writing their examination in candlelight went viral.

According to the reports, the pictures have been acquired from an examination centre in Kupwara where students of class X and XII are writing their BOSE (Board of School Education) exams. They wrote the papers using candlelight and mobile torches due to lack of lighting at various examination centres.

The students complained that many of them could not even read the question paper properly in the dark.

A senior education official admitted that some examination centres “lacked lighting facilities” on Friday. However, the administration has made arrangements for the other papers and timings too have been changed.
