Section 144 has been imposed in Gurgaon and in parts of Rohtak district as a precautionary measure ahead of the the fresh Jat agitations that is scheduled to resume in Haryana from January 29, by the district administration.

The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner Hardeep Singh. It bars people from blocking and obstructing roads, railway stations, power stations and canals through protests and demonstrations. Moreover, gatherings of five or more people is barred as well.

Apart from that walking around with weapons like sticks, swords and knives, will be seen as a violation of the order. It will be enforced from January 27-30 in the district.

Notably, the representatives of the Jat community had guaranteed that the protests will be peaceful this time in a meeting with Singh and Commissioner of Police Sandeep Khirwar earlier this week. They also highlighted that their objective, unlike last time, is not to pressurize government for reservations, “since the matter is sub-judice”, but to center on “reminding” the government of its promises.

The representatives also alerted authorities against “deviants” who are “not from within the community.” It said they may try to disrupt peace in the district, but also promised to bring such people to the notice of the police force.

However, at the meeting, Khirwar said all SHOs have been told to keep their personnel ready and on alert.
