BACKGROUND
Jay Park is the stage name of Korean-American rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, performer, and singer-songwriter Jae-beom Park. Park demonstrated a keen interest in hip hop and breakdancing as a youth. He attended Edmonds Woodway and has stated that he listened to a great deal of hip hop and rap music in his youth, writing and rapping tunes throughout high school.
Park joined the b-boy crew Art of Movement in 2003 and frequently missed class to compete in b-boy competitions. Eventually, he auditioned for a local advertising agency, where he joined the lead of the Korean boy band 2PM. As a result of his role as 2PM’s main singer, Park returned to Korea in June 2010 to film the drama film “Hype Nation,” which was released in 2014.
