After attending a committee meeting of the party, a Janata Dal (United) MLA, said that the party has decided to support NDA’s presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind.
“Yes, at the meeting our party decided to support Ram Nath Kovindji as the presidential candidate… he is a good person”, Ratnesh Sada, MLA from Sonbarsa, Bihar, said.
He added that Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar, individually met the MLAs to seek their opinion on the presidential candidate.
Some senior JD(U) leaders were also present at the meeting.
Sources said that Kumar had said he was “personally happy” with the NDA’s choice of Mr Kovind for the President’s post.
However, his ruling alliance partners in Bihar, the RJD and the Congress have said they would take a decision after the proposed Opposition parties’ meeting on June 22.
Mr Kumar is likely to formally announce his party’s support to Mr Kovind soon.
