Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has urged the Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan to withdraw from GST promotion to avoid getting targeted by traders later. Earlier, the government roped in Mr Bachchan to promote Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is set to roll out from July 1.

According to Times Now, the Central Board of Excise and Customs made the Bollywood megastar brand ambassador for GST. The video stretches till 40 seconds in which Bachchan explains GST as a unifying force just like three colours in the national flag. The video is already shot and is being circulated. In the video, he says that GST is an initiative to create one nation, one tax, one market.

Maharashtra Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam said, “Amitabh Bachchan is a very respectful person, but it is not important that he become a part of every stupid act of BJP. It might happen that the protests against GST impact his image”.

“The government is not ready to listen to businessmen who are protesting, in that case standing with the government doesn’t suit him,” he added.

Bollywood star Big B is already a face of Swachch Bharat campaign and Gujarat Tourism.

Nirupam told to CNN-News 18, “Standing by the government doesn’t suit him. Why be a part of BJP’s stupid acts?”

He added, “GST hurts traders, why is Bachchan promoting it?”
