JEE, NEET 2020: 17-year-old aspirant writes to CJI Bobde, requests to postpone exams amid COVID-19

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on August 25 issued fresh guidelines for the exams to be held on September 1 to 6 (JEE) and September 13 (NEET).

On Sunday, a 17-year-old JEE aspirant wrote a letter to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde, seeking postponement of the NEET and JEE exams in view of the COVID 19 pandemic and flood crisis in parts of the country.

Despite several requests to postpone JEE and NEET 2020 exams due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said in a video on Wednesday that many candidates and parents wanted the conduct of the exam.

He also said that in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order on conducting NEET and JEE examinations, and in accordance with the requirements of students and parents, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct engineering and medical entrance examinations.

As he is a minor, Supreme Court lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava provided him with the required assistance.

As per the PTI report, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has given permission for conducting JEE and NEET exams in the city. A proposal for holding exams in Delhi was put forth in the last meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), L-G and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was present at the meeting, the report said.
