In a strategic push to attract foreign investment and position Jharkhand on the global industrial map, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has embarked on a multi-nation European tour, accompanied by an 11-member delegation that notably includes his wife and Gandey MLA, Kalpana Soren.
The high-level team is set to engage with business leaders and clean energy innovators across Spain and Sweden, with the aim of unlocking new industrial opportunities for the mineral-rich state, which has been trying to diversify its economic portfolio beyond coal and traditional sectors.
Investment Roadshow in Spain
The delegation will first land in Madrid on April 19. A series of closed-door meetings are scheduled with key Spanish industrial groups to showcase investment opportunities in Jharkhand, particularly in sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, and green technology. The team will also visit Barcelona to continue the engagement with potential investors and industry experts.
Spain’s industrial base, especially in areas like renewable energy and smart manufacturing, aligns with Jharkhand’s emerging focus areas. Government officials said the meetings are intended to create long-term partnerships and possibly initiate groundwork for Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
Clean Energy in Focus: Sweden Next
The second leg of the trip will take the delegation to Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 25. The agenda there includes meetings with several clean energy firms working on next-generation sustainable technologies such as hydrogen fuel, battery storage, and circular economy solutions.
Jharkhand is aiming to move beyond its coal-dependent image and become a hub for green energy in eastern India. The government believes that engagement with European cleantech companies will bring fresh momentum to that goal.
Kalpana Soren’s Inclusion Signals Rising Political Role
The presence of Kalpana Soren in the delegation has drawn attention, as her political profile has grown significantly in recent months. As an elected MLA and the CM’s wife, her involvement in the state’s international investment agenda suggests her increasing role in governance and strategic affairs.
Building a Global Identity for Jharkhand
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that the Europe tour is part of a larger initiative to enhance Jharkhand’s visibility in the global investment ecosystem. “We want Jharkhand to be seen as a serious, policy-driven destination for investors — not just in mining, but in clean tech, smart infrastructure, and industrial innovation,” an official told Newsd.in.
