Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Nirmal Awas’, a colony for leprosy-affected people in Ranchi’s Mudma locality.
As many as 256 beneficiaries are entitled to get flats in the colony. On the occasion, the CM handed over keys to 10 beneficiaries as a token gesture.
‘The government is committed to taking the benefit of its schemes to needy people. We are constructing more such colonies in different districts,’ the CM said.
The project, initially named ‘Kusthashram,’ was renamed ‘Nirmal Awas’ by the CM to reflect a sense of pride and positivity.
Seven G+1 blocks were constructed on a 5.5-acre land with an aim to improve the living standards of the leprosy-affected. Funded under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the project cost Rs 35 crore.
Each flat, worth Rs 13 lakh, is being provided free of cost. The state government decided to cover the financial burden for these beneficiaries.
Amenities in the colony include a bedroom, living area, balcony, combined toilet, internal roads, solar street lights, parking, and a health and wellness center. Similar colonies are being developed in Jamshedpur, Deoghar, and Mihijam.
