Jio Bids Adieu to Rs 119 Prepaid Recharge
In order to increase its ARPU, Airtel discontinued its Rs 99 base prepaid recharge plan in India earlier this year. Following the change, the cheapest Airtel prepaid recharge bundle was the Rs 155 plan. By eliminating the Rs 119 prepaid plan, Jio has made its base plan closer to that of Airtel and may have surpassed Airtel in terms of average revenue per user (ARPU). Currently, the cheapest Jio prepaid recharge bundle costs Rs 149.
The Rs 119 Jio plan included unlimited voice calls and 1.5GB of data per day. With this plan, subscribers also received 100 complimentary SMS messages per day. The cheapest Jio prepaid plan, however, was only effective for 14 days. The Jio Rs 119 prepaid plan offered no additional benefits.
Airtel Rs 155 Plan vs. Jio Rs 149 Plan: Comparison of Cheapest Prepaid Plans
The Rs 149 Jio prepaid plan has a longer validity period than the Rs 119 plan. It provides twenty days of validity to subscribers. The recharge plan provides users with a total of 20GB of data with a daily limit of 1GB. The Rs 149 plan, like all Jio plans, includes unlimited voice calls and 100 complimentary SMS per day. In addition, the plan included complimentary JioTV, JioCinema, and JioCloud subscriptions.
In contrast, the Airtel Rs 155 prepaid plan has a 24-day validity period. It provides unrestricted voice calling but only 1GB of data. In addition, the bundle only includes 300 SMS for the duration of its validity. Other perks include a complimentary HelloTunes subscription and complimentary Wynk Music.
Despite its shorter validity, Jio’s plan offers subscribers greater value for their money when compared to the other two. It offers 1GB of data per day, compared to 1GB offered by Airtel per month. Additionally, Jio consumers receive 2,000 free SMS (100 free SMS per day for 20 days), whereas Airtel only offers 300 free SMS.
