Delhi Police on Sunday detained students of JNU who were protesting at the India gate over inaction by the authorities to find Najeeb Ahmed, an MSc student who went missing 22 days ago.

Najeeb’s mother was also detained by the police.

The detained students were lodged at Mayapuri police station and Mayapuri Police Station, and section 144 has been imposed in and around the protest site.

Sources said that the Students were brutally beaten up by the police and were dragged to the bus.

JNU students had been protesting for the last 22 days. Student leaders have accused the ABVP of being involved in the incident.

Delhi Police have announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for anyone with credible information about Najeeb.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the Centre was adopting ‘dictatorship’ policy and violating the constitutional right of an individual. Earlier, he met President Pranab Mukharjee regarding the issue and submitted a letter.

Najeeb Ahmed went missing from JNU on October 14, after an altercation with members of ABVP.
