Samsung to launch AI digital assistant service for Galaxy S8

Samsung Elecrtronic Co Ltd said on Sunday it would launch an Artificial Intelligence (AI) digital assistant service for its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone.

Samsung in October announced the acquisition of Viv Labs Inc, a firm run by co-creator of Apple’s Siri voice assistant program.

Samsung aims to integrate Viv’s AI platform in to the Galaxy smartphone and expand voice assistant services to the wearable technology devices and home appliances, Reuters reports.

Samsung did not comment on what type of services would be offered through the AI assistant.

Galaxy S8 is expected to release in the market early next year.

“Developers can attach and upload services to our agent,”  Samsung Executive Vice President Rhee In-jong told media during a briefing.

“Even if Samsung doesn’t do anything on its own, the more services that get attached the smarter this agent will get, learn more new services and provide them to end-users with ease.”, he added.

Experts said the discontinuation of Galaxy Note 7s would cost the company around $5.4 billion and S8 must be a strong device enough to regain the company’s smartphone momentum
