JP Nadda releases BJP’s manifesto for Karnataka Assembly polls

The manifesto or vision document of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the Karnataka Assembly elections was released in Bengaluru on May 2 by party president JP Nadda.

Additionally present were Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa.

In past manifestos, the BJP has asserted that it has reached every segment of society.

In its manifesto for the 2018 Assembly elections, the party also proposed cattle protection measures.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also campaigning in the final phase of the BJP’s Karnataka election campaign.

On Sunday, he held a roadshow in Mysuru, a traditional JDS stronghold, the most recent of many rallies he has already held.

Considered a three-cornered contest between the BJP, the Congress, and the JDS, all parties are putting forth their best effort and leaving no stone unattended, while some political leaders have resorted to name-calling. The Congress, which fought the previous Assembly elections in coalition with the JDS, decided to run on its own this time.

Sunday, while speaking at an election rally in Kolar, PM Modi harshly criticised Congress national president Mallikarjuna Kharge for his “poisonous snake” remark.

PM Modi stated that in the upcoming Assembly elections, the people of Karnataka will give the party a “suitable response” to Kharge’s remark.
Thursday at a campaign rally in Kalaburagi, the national president of the Congress party stated, “PM Modi is like a ‘poisonous snake’; you may question if it’s poisonous or not. However, if you ingest it, you will die.”

Prime Minister Modi responded to the remark by stating, “The Congress is obviously disturbed by my ongoing fight against corruption. It has even begun to threaten me. They are saying ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ (PM Modi, your grave will be excavated). It appears that the only topic of discussion for the Congress in these elections is serpent poison. They compare me to a snake and solicit ballots based on this comparison. I compare the people of Karnataka to Lord Shiva. I don’t mind being the serpent around the necks of those whom I consider to be gods. On May 10, the people of Karnataka will respond appropriately.”
The prime minister also referred to the Congress as a “outdated engine.”

On May 13, the ballots for the Karnataka Assembly will be counted.
