Bomb blast across three Afghan cities including Kabul killed around 50 people on Tuesday. The bloodshed shattered a comparative pause in violence as Taliban insurgents intensified a deadly winter campaign. About nine people were killed when explosives hidden in a sofa exploded inside the governor’s compound in southern Kandahar during a visit by the UAE ambassador to Afghanistan.

The ambassador escaped the attack with injuries.  The incident took place just hours after a twin Taliban blasts in Kabul that tore through staff exiting a parliament annexe. It houses the offices of officials including lawmakers. The twin blast killed at least 30 people and wounded 80 others.

The attack occurred in a crowded area during the afternoon rush hour as workers were returning home. The first explosion, carried out by a suicide bomber, was quickly followed by a second, caused by car bomb parked near the same site, spokesman for the Interior Ministry Sediq Sediqqi told media.

The Afghan Taliban has claimed responsibility for the twin blasts, which they said had killed or wounded scores of people, Reuters reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, a suicide bomber killed seven people and injured nine in the southern province of Helmand. The incidents come after a period of relative calm in Afghanistan’s capital.
