Set during the partition era, the complex love story is based between Roop (Alia Bhatt) and her husband Dev (Aditya Roy Kapur). Also, the twist adds up when Roop falls in love with Zafar (Varun Dhawan). As the story unfolds further in the film, you will witness all the emotions at once. Be it heartbreak, love, happiness, etc.

The move raises questions of high morals of the society, especially the family ties. It majorly focuses on how love sees no boundaries, no norms or rules, and no religion. The film makes it the strongest point where the calm character of Aditya Roy Kapoor breaks out by saying that what point a marriage keeps if a man’s wife is in love with another man.

The film based in the backdrop of a town called Husnabad near Lahore before the partition of India and Pakistan. The town which is populated by blacksmiths and a majority of them being Muslims.

The story seems to offer newness but some parts the complex relationships and old romance at the same time would be predictable. The grand thing about the film is the sets, costumes and everything that it offers. That is what the best part about a period drama.

The screenplay of the film keeps fluctuating between the nuances and the theatrical drama. It shows everything ranging from the subtle moments between Roop and Dev, the tender exchanges between Satya and Dev and the romantic scenes with intense dialogues between Roop and Zafar.

An epic love saga based in the 1940s is indeed a treat to the eyes, courtesy the visually strong factors it has offered. Cinematography is what should be given a special mention as it stands out just like the music in the film. The 2 hours and 48 minutes long movie that seems to be edited tightly would have been ended sooner. Altogether the film will reach your heart and will strike the right chords.
