Mandya: In a fatal bus accident, at least 25 including five children have reportedly died after the bus fell into Vishweshwaraiah Canal near Mandya earlier today.
Farmers working in the nearby fields immediately reached the spot and started the rescue work and managed to pull out some passengers.
The bus which was packed with passengers reportedly lost its balance and fell into the canal. The death toll is likely to rise as the rescue work is under progress.
Karnataka Chief Minsiter HD Kumaraswamy has asked the Mandya representative to reach the spot at the earliest and instructed the Deputy Commissioner to oversee the rescue operation.
Visuals showed that the locals are using rope in their attempt of pulling out the bus of the canal.
Karnataka Deputy CM G Parmeshwara said, “I believe the driver was not driving the bus properly…..I will find out.”
