Karunanidhi Funeral: PM Modi pays tribute to Kalignar as he starts his final journey

In Chennai today, PM Narendra Modi paid tributes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi. The PM said that Kalaignar Karunanidhi was an extraordinary leader and a veteran administrator whose life was devoted to public welfare and social justice.

“Kalaignar Karunanidhi will live on in the hearts and minds of the millions of people whose lives were transformed by him”, he added.

The legend left thousands crying after him. It is a loss of the nation to not have the versatile leader anymore among us. People flooded to after the procession trying to have a glimpse of the departed leader during his funeral procession.

As a mark of respect for the five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned after leaders paid respect to Karunanidhi. The Tamil Nadu government had denied permission last night to give a space at Marina Beach for the burial claiming that the space is given only to the working Chief Ministers. DMK wanted a burial space next to CN Annadurai at Marina Beach. Later Madras High Court gave the approval explaining that there was no such legal impediment in providing a place there.
