Updated on :

The snowfall, which began in the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley earlier this week, reached Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The cold wave like conditions considerably brought down the maximum temperature in Kashmir.

All weather stations across the valley Friday witnessed a drop of around 10 degrees Celsius from the normal day temperatures for this time of the year.

Met Office confirmed that Keylong, headquarter of Lahaul-Spiti district recorded about 35 cm snow till 0830 hours and it is still continuing.

Snowfall in the Zojila Pass has closed the Srinagar-Leh highway while the Mughal Road connecting the valley to the Jammu region has also been shut for traffic.

Even parts of Himachal Pradesh are covered under white blanket of thick snow.
