In Kerala’s Sabarimala Sannidhanam without using a single unit of electricity or motor about 2 crore liter of drinking water is stored. This sustainable project has been done with the help of gravity. This water is brought from the Kunnar dam through pipelines to Pandithavalam in Sannidhanam. And is further stored in 9 large reservoirs

Kunnar Dam is located in a deep forest which is seven kilometers away from Sannidhanam. For gravity to do its work, reservoirs are obviously positioned lower than the dams so that the water automatically flows to them without using any man-made energy.

The reservoirs are situated at the highest point of Sabarimala. Also, the water is carried from the reservoirs to numerous buildings without using any motors. As reported by Mathrubhumi, the water is distributed from the four reservoirs while the other five are used for storing water all the time.

The water in these reservoirs is chlorinated every two hours. The authority checks after water quality every day to make sure the highest practice of standards. The newly built reservoir can store 70 lakh liters of water. The tank is 70 meters long and 35 meters wide.

The other 6 tanks hold a capacity of 20 lakh liter and one tank has 18 lakh liters of capacity.

The water from these reservoirs in Pandithavalam is supplied to all buildings, residential and commercial establishments in the area. Normally 70 lakh liter of water is required per day from these reservoirs but on heavy rush days during the pilgrimage, consumption goes up to 1.15 crore liter.
