UDF alliance in Kerala

Kerala Election Results 2026: Counting in Kerala has turned into a clear win for the Congress-led United Democratic Front. The alliance has surged far ahead and now looks set to take power back with a strong majority in the 140-member Assembly. The Left Democratic Front, led by CPI(M), has fallen well behind, while the BJP-led NDA has stayed on the edge with only a small presence in the state.

This result points to a big mood change among voters. The LDF government faced strong anti-incumbency, and the Congress camp gained from people wanting a change after two straight LDF terms. Reports also say minority votes, welfare-focused campaigning, and a wider push for change helped the UDF build its lead.

Big Loss for the Left

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had a tense start in Dharmadam, where he was trailing in the early counting, but he later won the seat. Even so, the wider state picture stayed very tough for the LDF. Election reports say many of the ruling front’s ministers faced defeat, which made the setback look even sharper.

On the UDF side, several senior leaders performed strongly. Ramesh Chennithala won Haripad comfortably, which added more strength to the alliance’s winning mood. Kerala looks set to return to its old habit of changing governments after each term, and the UDF is now heading for a sweeping mandate.

NDA Stays Small in the Race

The BJP-led NDA did not make a big breakthrough in Kerala. It remained a minor force and managed only a few leads or wins compared with the two main fronts. That keeps the state’s main fight locked between the UDF and the LDF, with the Congress camp now clearly ahead.
