Kasaragod: Two days after police arrested two persons in the case of killing of two Youth Congress workers were killed in Kerala, police arrested a local CPI(M) leader who allegedly mobilised a gang to murder.

Police arrested A Peethambaran, 45, local CPI (M) community member was arrested in the case of hacking of Youth Congress workers Sarath Lal, 24 and Kripesh, 19.

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday had tweeted, “The brutal murder of two members of our Youth Congress family in Kasargod, Kerala is shocking. The Congress Party stands in solidarity with the families of these two young men & I send them my deepest condolences. We will not rest till the murderers are brought to justice.”

The CPI (M) district committee has removed Peethambaran from the party.

While the Congress has hinted at CPI-M’s hand behind Sunday’s killings, the ruling party had denied any involvement.

Krupesh, 19, and Joshy, 24, were hacked to death by three men who came on motorcycles. While Krupesh died at the Kasargode district hospital, Joshy succumbed to his injuries on his way to a medical facility in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
