A 30-year-old man suspecting of killing his parents, sister and aunt in their house in Thiruvananthapuram was detained on Monday night, said police. Identified as Kedal Jaison, the man was held from the railway station on Monday night. He was being interrogated and has admitted to committing the heinous crime, said police.

The bodies of four persons including retired professor Raj Thankam, his wife Jean Padma, a retired medical superintendent, their daughter Carol, a medical student, and aunt Lalitha were found early on Sunday. Three bodies were found in a charred condition.

Another mutilated body was found packed in a bag in their home, situated near the residences of CM Pinarayi Vijayan and eight of his colleagues.

The neighbors on late Saturday night saw smoke coming from the house, said police. The fire brigade was soon called. After the fire fighters doused the fire, they found the bodies.

Police said they received information that a person was seen escaping from the house and they believe that it was Jaison. The mortal remains of the deceased were interned at their family churchs’ cemetery.
