Thiruvananthapuram: This new year seemed to be a record thumping one for Kerala in terms of its liquor consumption as it has consumed alcohol worth Rs 68.57 crore. This is the highest record till date. Also it is 8 percent more than that of the previous year. Last year Kerala had consumed liquor worth Rs 63 crore on new year eve.
On Christmas eve also there was an increase in liquor sales. It also had recorded an increase of eight percent. On the beverages outlet on Powerhouse Road in Thiruvananthapuram, liquor worth Rs 88 lakh was sold on December 31. This is the highest recorded sale in a single day in the state till date.
The increased rate has been recorded also in the Christmas-new year ten-day sale statistics. Rs 522 crore worth liquor was sold in this period compared to the Rs 512 crore last year. Recently during Onam, Kerala has also registered extreme amounts of alcohol consumption. It was worth Rs 500 crore.
Alcohol sales of the fiscal year 2018-19 from the outlets of Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO) and Consumerfed registered a revenue of Rs 14,508 crores.
