Kerala: Sabarimala Temple shut for 'purification' after two women below 50 enter Sanctorum

After Two women aged below 50 have entered the Sabarimala Sanctorum in Kerala on Wednesday, the head priest of the temple has ordered to close it for ‘purification’.

Sabarimala temple was closed at 10.30 am and will be opened an hour later, after purification rituals.

This is the first time a woman of a menstrual age has entered the shrine. The shrine which has been kept out of bounds for women in their menstrual age was made open by a Supreme Court ruling but has been continued to be restricted.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinaarayi Vijayan confirmed the news while addressing media. “It is true that two women climbed the shrine and the police gave them protection”, he said.
