Kia Carens Clavis EV: Kia India is getting ready to launch something big in its electric vehicle range. On July 15, the company will officially bring out the Carens Clavis EV. This new car will be the country’s first electric seven-seater MPV in its category. Kia is clearly planning to grow its EV family and the Clavis EV is an important step in that direction.

It’s mainly made for families living in cities who want a smart electric car that still gives them lots of space and comfort. While it looks a bit like the petrol and diesel versions of the Carens, this one has its own EV look and feel.

Design and Features

From the outside, the new Clavis EV still keeps its big MPV body, just like the other Carens models. But this one will come with small design changes to make it stand out as an electric car. Kia is expected to add a closed front grille, which will also be used as the charging point. The bumpers may look new, and the alloy wheels could be more aerodynamic to help improve driving efficiency. The rear of the car may also get a stylish LED light bar that connects across the back, just like the regular Carens.

The inside of the car is going to be almost the same as the petrol or diesel version, but with some new tech specially made for electric driving. It might come with two large 12.3inch screens one for the infotainment and one for showing the driving info. The steering wheel may have a fresh two-spoke design, and Kia could also update the centre console to offer more space to keep small items. The cabin might come in a nice black and white dual-tone colour combination, which gives it a clean and modern look.

Kia may offer some high-end comfort features too. These could include a driver seat that can be powered and ventilated, a climate control system that works in two zones and has vents for back seat passengers too, and wireless charging pads for phones in both the front and the back. There might also be a panoramic sunroof and an inside rearview mirror that dims automatically.

Safety and Performance

When it comes to safety, Kia plans to include some solid features in the Clavis EV. It might come with six airbags, sensors at the front and back to help while parking, a 360-degree camera with blind spot alerts, and a tyre pressure check system. On top of that, Kia is expected to give the car Level 2 ADAS features. These could include tools like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping help, alerts if the driver seems tired, and automatic braking if there’s a danger ahead.

Battery

For the battery, Kia could offer a bigger 51.4 kWh pack that may give a range of up to 490 km when fully charged, according to the MIDC test cycle. There may also be a smaller version with a 42 kWh battery that could give a range close to 400 km. Official details on power and speed are not yet confirmed, but it might be a front-wheel drive car with power between 135 and 170 PS.
