India’s only celebrity talk show that matters – Koffee with Karan, made a KJo-ish entry back onto Indian TV screens on Sunday night. After missing last season, Shahrukh Khan decided to kick-off the season with Alia Bhatt in tow.
The show started off with why SRK didn’t appear on the last season and how it was blamed on an alleged rift with Karan. To this, Shah Rukh said, “I had to justify nationalism and you had to show me some love. Why don’t we just release the picture of us kissing and even the one where we are married.”
Talking about his present state in life, SRK said, “I am at rest, but not at peace. Peace is boring.”
Alia, on the other hand, served as the right contrast to Shahrukh. She talked about how she was on a relationship break, and would rather prefer eating a pizza than going out with Ranbir or Ranveer.
The two also played along well on the couch, with SRK neatly learning new words from Alia such as legit boyfriend and bunny hopping.
While Shah Rukh is extremely overwhelmed and impressed with Alia, he stated that she is too good ‘too soon’ and instead of getting into just being a great actor, she should experience everything that the industry has to offer. SRK claimed that he was demotional (detached yet emotional), something that Alia should be too, and she nodded in agreement.
Moving on, the superstar spoke about how working with Alia Bhatt was even a bigger learning process for him as compared to working with Mahesh Bhatt.
Johar introduced a new slot inspired by Ellen De Genre’s show, where both actors were supposed to act in a certain way while reading out something completely abstract. Shahrukh’s Arnab Goswami impression was spot on, Alia’s ‘whatever’ girl reading philosophy gave tough competition.
The King Khan won that round and went on to ace the rapid fire round as well. Alia though redeemed herself where it mattered, by winning the GK test. On her first appearance, the starlet famously goofed up the name of India’s President and was the butt of all jokes for a long time. Shahrukh repeatedly brought it during the show, much to the embarrassment of Highway-star.
Considering the first guests have set the bar high for others, it remains to be seen how Akshay Kumar fares with his wife Twinkle Khanna in the next episode.
