Red Star JNU,A football team from JNU,  played a tournament with stickers saying ‘Najeeb’ pasted over their own names on their jerseys.

The players also wore white armband with ‘Find Najeeb’ written on it. The team also sloganeered for Najeeb during the gap between matches.

“in the football pitch, we wanted to give this exact message: We all are Najeeb. It could happen to anyone of us. And imagine our mothers and family members dragged and beaten in public by the police for demanding Justice!”, Red Star JNU captain Muhammed Haneefa said in a Facebook  post.

On Saturday, Red Star JNU played two matches in the Capital Carnival tournament. It won the first match against Janasamskriti Badarpur and lost the second against Force 1.

The team won the fair play award in the tournament for their mode of protest and way of playing.

Haneefa said that many spectators came up to speak to the Red Star players. “They understood that it was a genuine cause and joined us in sloganeering during the gap between our matches.”, Telegraph reported.

On Sunday, Najeeb’s mother and fellow students were cruelly beaten and dragged in to the bus by police during a vigil against the inaction by government authorities in finding the disappeared student.
