Actor, director, writer – Kent Moran – who is best known for his work in the film ‘Listen to Your Heart’ and ‘The Challenger,’ has many feats in his bucket, but he still thinks he has a long way to go. Always inclined towards creativity, Moran has been acting since he was a kid. In fact, he love acting as one can do it anywhere and without anything, but self. In an exclusive chat with Newsd, Moran talked about his career, interest, journey so far, things he is proud of and India. Here’s what he has to say:
Q. When did you start acting and what made you interested in this particular art?
I’ve always loved anything creative. I’ve been acting since I was a kid. It started with me just putting on voices and acting as different people in front of friends and family. I just loved pretending. I acted all throughout my school years and did my first professional play at 12.
I was focused mostly on sports during high school, and then returned to acting in college. After college, I realized that this is what I wanted to do and started pursuing it professionally. I love acting because you can do it anywhere and without anything, but you. It’s gratifying!
Q. How supportive were your family of your decision? Were your parents into acting as well?
Haha, no my parents were not actors. I come from a family of business-oriented people so I was definitely pushed towards this. In college, I actually got finance major with an acting and music minor. Finance was my “fall back” plan. When I told my parents I wanted to drop the finance and go into acting, at first they were pretty concerned and worried. They wondered if I could ever make a real living from it. But they came around. They’ve been very supportive of my choices and my career and now are happy.
Q. How would you define your journey as?
My journey has been an exciting one so far, with lots of ups and downs and lots of hard work. Most people don’t realize all the work that goes into pursuing this career. It can be a roller coaster so I do my best to enjoy each step of the journey. I try to care less about the outcome and more about just doing the best job I can with each thing I do. I think you can only really pursue acting or filmmaking if you are incredibly passionate about it because it takes everything you’ve got. So you have to love it. Thankfully, I do love it, so I actually enjoy putting in the work.
Q. What are you particularly proud of, so far?
I guess I’m most proud of the two films I’ve made so far as a filmmaker. It’s a small miracle to get any indie film made so I’m proud that we were able to make them and even happier that people seem to be enjoying the work. But mostly, I’m more concerned with all I have left to accomplish. I really just started. I feel like I’ve been developing these tools with acting and filmmaking and like with anything, you get better the more you practice. So, while I’m proud of my past work, I think my best work is yet to come and I can’t wait to do it.
Q. What are your future plans?
I actually have two very exciting projects in active development right now. Sadly, I can’t announce what they are just yet, but I can say that those who admired my work so far, will be very happy about one of the projects. And I’m very passionate about the other. So I’m having a lot of fun working on those right now and can’t wait to share them.
Q. Have you ever been to India? Do you intend to travel to this part of the world anytime soon?
Not yet. Two of my best and oldest friends are from India though. I’ve always wanted to go with them. So, hopefully soon. As of now, I don’t have any plans.
Q. Which Bollywood actors do you admire?
I haven’t had the pleasure of watching many Bollywood movies yet, so I mainly know the actors that also appear in American films. But I like Irrfan Khan and Anil Kapoor a lot. I also know about Shah Rukh Khan.
