Coronavirus Impact: Unable to repay loan, couple dies by suicide in Bihar

Navi Mumbai: A 15-year-old boy from Sanpada was suffering from a kidney disease, he later died on May 16 after his family was made to take him to one hospital to another hospital for dialysis.

The 15-year-old Pawan Maddiboina was undergoing dialysis at Suraj Hospital, Sanpada, for the past one year.

On April 29, he developed fever and doctors at Suraj Hospital in Seawoods refused to do dialysis without a COVID-19 negative report.

Later the test for coronavirus came positive on May 3, so the NMMC hospital admitted Pawan and sent all of his six family members to NMMC’s institutional quarantine centre in Panvel.

Pawan’s father Balaji Maddiboina said , “If any of the hospitals had made arrangements for dialysis, my son would’sve been alive today. The NMMC hospital too denied for the dialysis.

NMMC Chief Annasaheb Misal said “I have sought an inquiry report from the medical officer for action against civic doctors.”

A Suraj Hospital staffer said Pawan’s dialysis could not be done as he did not submit the fourth COVID-19 report. Since of his 3 reports, one was positive, a fourth report was necessary.

Eventually, Maddiboina went to a hospital in Belapur on May 16 “But it was late evening, and they claimed dialysis was not possible. At 8.30 PM, Pawan passed away.” the father said.
