Lok Sabha Election 2019: Delhi Metro & DTC buses to carry voter awareness messages

At least 1000 DTC Buses run by the state and selected Delhi Metro trains will be used to carry voter awareness messages to encourage citizens to cast their vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls said Ranbir Singh (Delhi’s chief electoral officer).

The CEO’s team is in talks with DTC and DMRC to carry motivational messages and according to the officials, the awareness campaign is likely to begin from April 13.

Ranbir Singh said in a statement “We have written to the Delhi Metro to identify two trains to carry voter awareness advertisements. Also, 1,000 DTC buses will carry messages, appealing to citizens to participate in the polling exercise. The move is aimed at maximizing voter turnout in the capital.”

To increase voter awareness this campaign is a part of the Election Commission’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation program (SVEEP).

The EC chief has earlier asked the youngsters, in particular, to enroll in the voters’ list, last date for which is April 13. He also revealed that 4 lakh people have been added to the voters’ list since the final publication of the electoral rolls in January 2019.

He also said, in order to encourage more women voters to come out and exercise their franchise, pink polling booths, which will be managed by an all-women team, will be set up in each constituency.

Delhi goes to polls on May 12.
