Early life:
Baby was born in Prakkulam, Kollam, on April 5, 1954, to P. M. Alexander and Lilly Alexander as their son. During his school years, Baby entered politics through Kerala Students Federation. His education concluded at NSS High School in Prakkulam. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in political science. During the Emergency Period, he was involved in communist movements as a college student and was consequently arrested. Therefore, Baby was unable to take his senior year examination and abandoned his studies. During Emergency, he was arrested and brutally tortured in jail. During his youth, he held positions with Student Federation of India, Democratic Youth Federation of India, and CPI (M). He was elected to the Rajya Sabha at the age of 32, making him one of the youngest members at the time.
