Maari 2 movie review: Dhanush and Sai Pallavi’s sequel a mass entertainer

Maari 2 box office collection Day 3: Dhanush starrer rules Chennai Box office

Maari is a 2015 Indian Tamil language action comedy film written and directed by Balaji. Mohan starring Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal. An actor like Dhanush, typically seen in the hero mould, was refreshing to watch as a thug who took extreme joy in torturing and extorting money from innocents, and scorning any form of attachment.

The sequel of Maari released today and the reviews are appreciable. People are saying that Balaji Mohan and Dhanush managed to make the sequel even better. Maari 2 features Dhanush, Tovino Thomas, Sai Pallavi, Robo Shankar in the prominent roles.

There is a lot of nostalgia factor in the film but Balaji knows just how much of it to use. Dhanush, Robo Shankar, and Vinoth’s onscreen companionship add a lot of drama, humour, and entertainment to the film. Add to this Sai Pallavi aka Aanandhi, who walks on Maari’s footsteps only to win him over

The best thing about Maari 2 was that the antagonist was as strong as the anti-hero that Dhanush played. Tovino Thomas played the role of Beeja, whose only aim in life is to kill Maari ruthlessly, and he will keep you transfixed to the screen every time he is in focus. Beeja seems like the only one who can hit him where it hurts the most. In fact, he even steals the limelight from Dhanush in a couple of scenes. The antagonist of the sequel is written wonderfully and is definitely much better than the first one.

Coming back to Sai, her role is not just that of a romantic side-kick who is used by the villain as bait but it’s much more than that. One of the reasons she loves Maari is because of how much he respects women. She is not someone who would scream, ‘Kaapaatungo’ on being chased by goons but has the guts to hit them back and even take a bullet for Maari if she has to.

Zero Movie Review: ‘Zero’ is Shah Rukh Khan’s career best

Dhanush’s performance in this one was much better than the last one, thanks to the script. We saw a romantic side to Maari and we loved it. There is this one particular line in the film which you will not want to forget at all; ‘Why get married to a man who thinks of women as a commodity? You rather make something of yourself and stay single till someone sees you and likes you as a human being’, this is what Maari tells a woman and one of the ‘take away’ factors from the movie.

The only thing which let down the film was the slow-motion effect used for most of the fight scenes which would have looked so much better if they had not been given that particular effect. Also, the plot gets a tad bit predictable and fails to surprise you at times.
