06:14 PM | Total 74.6 per cent of voting recorded in Madhya Pradesh, told Election Commission.

Around 10 candidates, including those of Congress and the BJP in five seats of Bhind district have been put under house arrest. The move has come as a precautionary measure as Bhind remains a sensitive region prone to political violence during election season.

10:15 AM | Police detains BJP, Congress candidates following clashes 

According to the reports, the police has detained BJP candidate Arvind Singh Bhadauriya and Congress candidate Hemant Katare from Ater in Bhind, to prevent any kind of untoward situation. They have been kept at the circuit house.


9:40 AM | BJP’s three-time Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan exercised his franchise in Budhni.

He is seeking reelection from here. Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Shivraj said that the BJP’s target is 200 seats and hence will form the government again. “We are 100% certain that BJP will form government with an absolute majority. We have set a target of 200 seats and our lakhs of volunteers are working to make it a reality,” he said.


9:00 AM | Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath casted his vote in Chhindwara.

“I have full faith in the people of Madhya Pradesh. They are simple and innocent people who have been robbed for a long time by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” said Kamal Nath.


8:35 AM | Reportedly EVM machines were not working properly at few polling booths like that of Dabra in Gwalior district. The Election Commission officials have been informed about the glitch and efforts are underway to address the issue.


8:00 AM | The polling process for 227 constituencies in the state has begun. Voting for three constituencies began at 7am.

 

Polling across all 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh is underway amid tight security. According to Election Commission, over 65,000 polling stations have been set in the state, with special pink booths designated to encourage women voters. A total of 5.04 crore voters including 2.63 crore males, 2.41 crore females, 1,389 third gender and 62,172 postal electors are eligible to exercise their franchise. Around 3,046 booths will be secured by an all-women’s force.

78,870 EVMs are being used for the conducting elections. Physically challenged employees will manage 160 booths, while 3,046 polling centres will have all-women staff.
