DG Purushottam Sharma who was caught abusing and beating up his wife, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, the state department announced. The son of the DG-level officer had filed the official complaint against his father with the Home Minister and the state DGP. After taking the complaint into cognizance, the state government has relieved Sharma of his duties.

According to reports its has been said that Purushottam Sharma’s wife caught him red-handed in an objectionable position with another woman.
“We’ve been married for 32 years, in 2008 she had complained against me. But the point is, since 2008 she has been living in my house, enjoying all facilities & travelling abroad on my expenses, Additional DG Purshottam Sharma said after the video showing him beating his wife went viral.
“If my nature is abusive then she should’ve complained earlier. This is a family dispute, not a crime. I am neither a violent person nor a criminal. It is unfortunate that I have to go through this. My wife stalks me & has put cameras in the house,” he added.
According to the media reports, the officer went to the house of a female friend, where his wife suddenly arrived. After this, when the wife reached home in the afternoon, Sharma fiercely assaulted her. He threatened his wife not to intervene in his matter. The video of the assault was captured in a CCTV camera installed in his house. When the son came to know about the incident, two video clips of the incident were sent to senior officers. The first video is 7.13 minutes and the second is 4.47 minutes.
