Maharashtra: 7-time Congress MLA Kalidas Nilkanth Kolambkar likely to join BJP

Hours after Sujay Vikhe-Patil, son of the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil joined Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), in yet another setback to the Congress party before the Lok Sabha elections, senior politician and a 7 time MLA Kalidas Nilkanth Kolambkar has shown indications of joining the BJP.

The MLA from Naigaon has given ample indication of his plans to join the BJP ahead of the Vidhan Sabha (VS) elections. Kalidas Nilkanth Kolambkar had won from the Wadala Constituency with margin of just 800 votes against BJP’ Mihir Chandrakant Kotecha.

Reports suggest that word around Mr Kolambkar joining the BJP began doing rounds after an after the image of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was found on a banner put up at the MLA’ office, which is bang opposite to Congress’ Tilak Bhavan office.

In September 2018, Kolambkar had said that the has been invited by both BJP and Sena to join them. “I will join the party which does work in my constituency,” he had added.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Sujay Vikhe-Patil was welcomed to the BJP fold by several senior leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party chief Raosahabe Danve-Patil who had offered him a BJP flag.“I’ve taken this decision against my father’s wishes. I don’t know how much my parents will support this decision, but I’ll try my best to make my family proud by working under the guidance of BJP. CM and other BJP MLAs were supportive and helped me take the decision”, Patil had said, while interacting with media.

Congress seems to be finding it difficult to keep their flock together in Maharashtra as reports suggested that senior Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil could resign from the party was also likely to follow his son’s footsteps and resign from the party.
