In view of the coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra, the state education department has simplified the admission process for first year junior college for academic year 2020-21. According to the new guidelines which were published late on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, there will be no first-come-first-served (FCFS) rounds for admissions this year.

However, special rounds will be held for students who fail to seek admission in regular rounds. FCFS rounds generally follow regular admission rounds where students can claim seats against vacancies in colleges in a particular city or district.

Likewise, zero round for admissions where students who want to get admissions for Bi-focal courses has been cancelled and these admissions will now happen in regular rounds.

To ensure that students can apply for admission without going anywhere in person, the department will prepare for uploading documents on the online portal. Similarly, the admission booklets will be provided online, and students can also pay in the same way.

This year, the government decided to increase the quota for students with special needs from 3% to 4%. At the same time, according to state rules, the quota for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes(SEBC) was reduced from 16% to 12%.

A total of 50% seats in junior colleges affiliated to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will be reserved for students of civic body schools.

As per the education department, Class 10th results will be released by July end and the admission process for FYJC would begin in August.
