Maharashtra is making strategic strides in the realm of green steel production, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Speaking at the AIIFA Steelex 2025 conclave in Mumbai, he emphasized the state’s commitment to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India’s Green Steel Mission.
Fadnavis outlined significant initiatives aimed at decarbonizing the steel sector, including the ambitious target of sourcing 58% of Maharashtra’s energy from renewables by 2030. Additionally, he announced plans for providing farmers with 16,000 MW of solar energy power by 2026, a move intended to cut subsidies and reduce industrial power tariffs over the next five years.
In a bid to rejuvenate Gadchiroli, once plagued by Naxalism, Fadnavis declared it a future ‘steel city’ with strategic investments worth Rs 80,000 crore. Efforts include a vast tree plantation drive and advancements in green hydrogen, along with substantial pump storage projects to bolster sustainable energy goals. Furthermore, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi acclaimed Maharashtra’s endeavors, reiterating the state’s national duty in facilitating an economic shift towards sustainable energy.
