A man from UK lost his penis due to severe blood infection, he has become the world’s first to have new one built on his arm.

The man identified as Malcolm McDonald, a mechanic by profession, suffered a long-term perineum infection in 2014 that turned into sepsis to turn his fingers, toes, and genitals black. The infection becomes so severe after a point that he lost his manhood, according to The Sun.

For a time being, he faced severe problem to cope with the tragedy, he thus began drinking heavily.

Malcolm said he felt a ‘shadow of a man’ for two years after losing his penis.

“I knew deep down it was gone and I was going to lose it, then one day it just dropped off on to the floor. Because I had been through the devastation of knowing I was going to lose it, I just picked it up and put it in the bin,” he told The Sun

“My life really fell apart because I had no self-confidence. I drank too much. I didn’t see family and friends — I just didn’t want to have to face up to it,” he added.

But then, Malcolm found a phallus expert who once created a ‘bionic penis’ for a person who was born without one. Professor David Ralph of London’s University College Hospital told Malcolm about the so-called ‘penis master’.

Ralph told Malcolm that an arm-graft procedure needed to be done. He added that it could take up to two years. With a glimmer of hope, the 45-year-old decided to go ahead with the surgery.

Fortunately, the wait for the procedure to begin was not too long for Malcolm. As the operation was life-changing and allowed him to urinate properly, he received funding of £50,000 from the NHS.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the surgery dates were uncertain for a while. But once the first few procedures were over, Malcolm said it was all his ‘Christmases at once’.

“When I saw it on my arm for the first time I was so, so proud. After everything I had been through it didn’t feel weird at all — it was just a part of me,” he said.

Surgeons used Malcolm’s own blood vessels and nerves to form new manhood. The skin flap for the penis was taken from Malcolm’s right arm. After that, the surgeons created a urethra and installed two tubes inflated with a hand-pump, that would allow him to achieve a ‘mechanical’ erection.

Although the procedure took place four years ago, it is still not complete due to scheduling problems, missed appointments, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Malcolm hopes to have it grafted between his legs by the end of the year.
