In a shocking incident, a man in Varanasi’s Sarnath area gagged and stabbed his five-year-old son who was asking for two rupees for buying a kite, police said on Monday. The child was severally injured.

The incident took place on Sunday when Shivam, a class I student, was attacked by his father Vinod Rajbhar, 35, as the former asked Rs 2 from him to buy a kite, as per a report in HT.

Vinod, a tourist guide lives in Ganj area with his wife Gyatri, 32, daughter Komal, 3, and two sons Shivam and Satyam, 10. He was reportedly facing financial crisis, said police.

Annoyed by the demand, Vinod, who was drunk at that moment, took Shivam to the roof of the house, where he first gagged him and then stabbed him harshly, police said.

His other son Satyam saw his father attacking his brother and informed mother Gyatri. They then together intervened and took the child to hospital. After hearing their cries, the neighbours also gathered at the spot and informed the police.

Later Vinod was detained from his house, police said.

After getting initial treatment at the nearby hospital, the injured boy was admitted to a private hospital by his mother. His treatment is in progress, they said.
