Mangalya Bhagya Scheme: In Nanjangud a free mass marriage under the Mangalya Bhagya Scheme will take place at the Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple on May 22, 2025. The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mysuru, Dr. P. Shivaraju, announced that couples who want to participate must register by May 15. He also explained that the bride will receive a mangalsutra made of gold, which will weigh around 8 grams and will include two gold beads, reports TOI.
Dr. Shivaraju emphasized that the mass marriage scheme’s goal is to promote simple weddings and to raise awareness about organizing such events in temples across the state. This initiative is a part of the government’s effort to ensure that marriages are simple and without the need for extravagant expenses.

The application forms for this mass marriage event can be found at several locations, including the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hill, the Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple in Nanjangud, the Sri Vaidyanatheshwara Temple in Talakadu, the Muzrai Department Offices, and at all Tahsildar’s offices in Mysuru District.
As for eligibility, the groom must be at least 21 years old, and the bride must be 18 years or older. Only first-time marriages are eligible for the mass wedding, and second marriages will not be allowed. For intercaste marriages, a caste certificate must be submitted. Both parents or legal heirs must give their consent. The ADC emphasized that dowry is strictly prohibited, and if any complaints are received, those applications will be carefully checked, and legal action will be taken if the documents are found to be fraudulent.

On the day of the wedding, the bride’s and groom’s parents must be present. In the case where the parents are deceased, their death certificates should be submitted, and the legal heirs should attend the event.
