In his last ‘Mann ki Baat’ of the year on Christmas day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of two schemes — Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana- to encourage digital banking.
Modi announced a “Christmas gift” for those people making digit payments. Under the Lucky Grahak Yojana scheme, 15,000 people making digital payments will get Rs 1,000 cashback in a daily lucky draw for the next 100 days starting from December 25.
There will be a weekly draw and prize money will run into lakhs. Modi said the bumber draw for the scheme will be held on April 14, the birthday of Babasahed Ambedkar.
The lucky draw will take place in 100 cities across the country.
The scheme will be for the benefit of the poor and lower income groups. Only transactions between 50 and 3,000 Rs. will be eligible for reward under the scheme.
Under the Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana scheme, traders adopting cashless transaction methods will get a rebate in tax.
Modi said that he wanted a discussion in Parliament regarding the political party funding, but the Opposition “did not let the Houses run”. “People are spreading rumours that political parties have free hand but this is not true,” he said.
Modi also talked about the Benami Property law that came into being in 1988 . “We have retrieved it and turned it into an incisive law against ‘Benami Property’. In the coming days, this law will also become operational. For the benefit of the nation, for the benefit of the people, whatever needs to be done will be accorded our top priority,” he said.
He also wished the people on Christmas and wished Atal Behari Vajpayee on his birthday. He congratulated the Indian cricet team for its victory against England. He complimented Junior Hockey Team for lifting the World Cup and the Indian Women’s Hockey Team that won the Asian Champions Trophy.
