BACKGROUND

Young Percy Robert Miller began to forge his own path to success in the early 1990s. Miller, who would later be known by his stage moniker Miller, was born and raised in the Calliope Projects in New Orleans. He was so committed to basketball that he attended the University of Houston on an athletic scholarship. After falling out of college and transferring to Oakland’s Merritt University, he earned a business degree.

Miller inherited $10,000 from a malpractice settlement awarded to his grandfather upon his passing. The name of his record label was subsequently derived from the name of his record store, No Limit Records. In the same year that his brother was murdered in New Orleans, he resolved to become a successful entrepreneur in order to save his family and transform his life. One year later, Miller would release his debut album, “Get Away Clean,” and No Limit Records would become one of the most prominent music labels of the 1990s.

His debut album:

Miller, as the primary artist of No Limit Records, released two hip-hop classics, “Ice Cream Man” and “Ghetto D,” which spawned his biggest hits, including “Mr. Ice Cream Man,” “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” and “I Miss My Homies.” The 1998 signing of Snoop Dogg to Miller’s imprint was extremely profitable. The debut album of the Long Beach rapper sold over half a million copies in its first week, achieving double platinum status in less than three months. The most successful years for the label were 1998 and 1999, so Miller decided to invest in and expand No Limit Records.

In addition to being a rapper, Miller has also been an entrepreneur and an investor. He was one of the first musicians to recognise and capitalise on the entrepreneurial potential of the music industry, investing in a wide range of commercial sectors, from travel agencies to fast-food franchises. Due to his entrepreneurial vision and marketing strategies, Miller was ranked tenth on the “Forbes” list of the 40 highest-paid entertainers in the United States. Today, the founder and chief executive officer of No Limit Entertainment is one of the wealthiest figures in American hip-hop.
