Patna police arrested a man accused of an interstate medical scam on September 13 from hotel Patliputra. The police of three states had come together in search of medical scam accused Sandeep Jaisawal alias Sandeep Raj who cheated people by assuring them to provide seats in medical colleges and took the heavy amount in return.

Sandeep was arrested from room number 116 of hotel Patliputra Nirvana under Kotwali police station area on Wednesday late evening. According to Patna SSP Manu Maharaj, the police of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bengal were working together to search the accused.

“The arrest of Sandeep is a big catch for Patna police as the state police of three states were looking for him,” said Patna SSP Manu Maharaj.

“Sandeep was arrested after he failed to return money to a man Akhilesh Prasad which he had taken from him saying he would provide him a seat at a medical college,” said Rama Shankar Singh, house officer of Kotwali Police station.

Akhilesh had to meet Sandeep Sandeep near Buddha Smriti Park on Wednesday afternoon. Sandeep had taken Rs 40 lakh but neither had he provided the seat nor was he ready to return the money. However, Sandeep not only refused to return the money but also assaulted him. Following this, Akhilesh lodged a complaint at Kotwali police station against Sandeep. Later, the Kotwali police raided hotel Nirvana and nabbed Sandeep.

Sandeep and Lucknow-based lawyer Anil Kumar Yadav were running the racket. In May, the Calcutta police had arrested Yadav for allegedly running a racket that duped a woman of more than Rs 35 lakh by promising a medical college seat for her son. The woman mentioned in her complaint that she had got in touch with Raj after reading an advertisement. She met him at Swastha Bhavan and an office in Ballygunge (south Calcutta), where she paid him Rs 35 lakh in instalments. Police said Sandeep, son of Umesh Choudhary, is a resident of Muzaffarpur.
