Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case:Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the sensational murder case of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi has been granted bail by the court in Shillong on Tuesday. The case, which shocked the country in 2025, involved allegations that Raja was killed during the couple’s honeymoon trip in Meghalaya.

According to multiple verified reports, the Shillong court approved bail for Sonam Raghuvanshi nearly a year after her arrest in connection with the murder conspiracy case. Sonam will leave custody after finishing required procedures while her co-accused will remain in detention. The court has not yet released the complete bail conditions together with the official order of the court.
The bail order itself does not provide the defendant with an acquittal according to legal experts. The criminal trial and prosecution process can continue independently.
What Is the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case?
The case dates back to May 2025, when newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi from Indore travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon.
The couple reportedly went missing after visiting the scenic Sohra region, also known as Cherrapunji. The authorities found Raja’s decomposed body in a deep gorge which lies near Wei Sawdong Falls, leading to the start of a murder investigation.
Investigations later revealed that the case involved five accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, and three alleged contract killers, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi, all from Madhya Pradesh.

The investigators later claimed that Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha formed a partnership to hire attackers who would kill Raja during their honeymoon trip.
The police listed multiple suspects in their chargesheet which included Raj Kushwaha and three additional individuals. All accused persons have maintained their innocence.
Why Bail Was Granted?
