Mob Lynching: Man lynched to death on suspicion of cattle theft

Agartala: A man in the Sonamura sub-division of the Sepahijala district of Tripura has been allegedly lynched to death on suspicion of cattle theft. Matin Mia was lynched by the villagers on Saturday. Due to his injuries, he passed away on Sunday. Matin Mia was beaten up by the villagers as they accused him of being a cow lifter.

He died at Melaghar hospital, where he was admitted.

The villagers beat him and on Sunday morning police rescued him from the spot. He was sent to Melaghar hospital, where he died.

According to the villagers, they say a group of thieves entered into the house of one Tapan Bhowmik to steal the cattle from his house on Saturday.

Some villagers heard the barking of dogs at the Barnarayan area and they became alert.

Villagers saw few people coming out of the houses with cows and the villagers chased them. According to the villagers, all of them fled from the spot but they caught Matin Mia from that place. In last year five people died in Tripura due to mob lynching.

A same sort of incident happened in Sep 2019, a lynching took place at Kumarghat Railway Colony in Unokoti district of Tripura, A 15-year-old boy was lynched by a mob for allegedly stealing.
