Modi, Netanyahu address joint press conference, sign 7 pacts

Modi, Netanyahu address joint press conference, sign 7 pacts

In his historic three-day visit to Israel, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and his Israelian counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu addressed a joint press conference and held discussions on an extensive menu of issues like space technology, agriculture and water conservation on Wednesday. Earlier, the leaders had also said that the two countries need to fight the forces of terror.

Modi said that India and Israel suffered from terror because of their geography. He also added that Israel is leading in water conservation, agriculture technologies.

The two leaders also discussed global peace and stability.

The agreements signed by the two leaders are:

1. Setting up India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological Innovation Fund

2. Water conservation in India

3. Save water utility reform in India

4. India-Israel Development Cooperation

5. Plan of cooperation regarding cooperation in Atomic clocks

6. Cooperation in GEO-LEO Optical Link

7. Cooperation in Electric Propulsion for small satellites

“We agreed that efficiency of water and resource use; water conservation and its purification; productivity increases in agriculture are key areas in deepening our bilateral cooperation,” PM Modi said.

“India has suffered first-hand the violence and hatred spread by terror, so has Israel. PM Netanyahu and I have agreed to do much more together to protect our strategic interests and also cooperate to fight growing radicalization,” he said.

Earlier, PM Modi had described ties with Israel as ‘I for I’ (India for Israel and Israel for India). Previously, he held talks with President Rivlin, where a wide range of issues pertaining to India-Israel friendship and other global issues were discussed.
PM Modi also met Moshe, the youngest survivor of the 26/11, earlier in the day. He invited the child to visit India with his family.

The PM was also invited to a dinner by PM Netanyahu and his wife at their residence. He formally invited Netanyahu and his wife to India, which was immediately accepted by Netanyahu.
