In what is being seen as an attempt to accommodate Janta Dal United (JD(U)) in the cabinet, the Modi ministry is set for a major rejig on Sunday. This is the third and speculated to be the last cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the general elections in 2019. Dharmendra Pradhan, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Nirmala Sitharaman are tipped to get full cabinet status and others such as Rajyavardhan Rathore and Jitendra Singh are expected to get meatier assignments.

The inductions will include former foreign service officer, Hardeep Puri and former IAS officer, KJ Alphons, a former DDA commissioner. Both are not MPs currently.

Others are Uttara Kannada MP, Anantkumar Hegde, who has a strongman image, former home secretary and Arrah MP, RK Singh, Jodhpur MP, Gajendra Singh, former Mumbai police commissioner and Baghpat MP, Satya Pal Singh, Rajya Sabha MP from UP, Shiv Pratap Shukla, Buxar MP, Ashwini Chaubey and Tikamgarh MP, Virendra Kumar.

A meatier role for ministers Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, as MoS for information & broadcasting, and Jitendra as MoS in PMO, have impressed the leadership with their industrious and non-controversial style of functioning. The ministers will reportedly take oath at 10:00 AM today. PM Modi reportedly wants to wrap the oath ceremony session before he boards Air India One to leave for the BRICS summit.
