Momo Challenge: Bengal police arrests engineering student for sending Momo invites

First ever arrest in the life threatening online game ‘Momo Challenge’ made in West Bengal. The Momo Challenge has claimed several lives so far still the obsession continued to drive teenagers and youth crazy.

An engineering student from Ketugram in East Burdwan district has been taken under police custody. 20-year-old Anirdam Patra is a first year engineering student at Dr BC Roy Engineering College in Durgapur. Patra was arrested for spreading panic and violation of the IT Act.

Another student from third year of the BC Roy College, Jaykrishna Pal had reported the matter to police after he received a message on WhatsApp from an unknown number on August 28. Pal got scared on receiving the message as he had heard about the peril of playing this fatal game.

Upon his complaint, a special Investigation team of East Burdwan police took up the probe and tracked down the message originated from Patra’s mobile phone. He had manipulated his mobile number using an app to send the message to Pal.

Patra was produced at Katwa Sub-divisional Court and later got a bail on the condition that he stays away from all the social media. On an addition, court has asked him to appear at the Ketugram police station once every week.
