Motorola MA2 Wireless Adapter: Motorola’s new wireless Android Auto adapter has shown up in official FCC documents this week. The device is called the MA2, and it looks like the next version of the MA1, which first came out in January 2022. The older MA1 was known as the only Google-approved wireless Android Auto adapter at that time. Now almost 4 years later, the new model seems ready to launch with some important upgrades.
The FCC files were shared on Reddit by a user named Electrical-Plum-751. The papers show that the MA2 is made by Meizhou Guo Wei Electronics, the same company that built the first MA1. Based on past timing, 9to5Google believes the new adapter could arrive around April 2026. The MA1 was released about 2 to 3 months after it appeared in FCC listings, so the MA2 may follow a similar path.

Design
The old MA1 had a fixed USB-A cable that could not be removed. If the cable broke, users had no easy fix. Some cars also needed USB-C, which caused trouble. The new MA2 solves this problem by using a detachable cable. Photos in the FCC filing show support for both USB-A and USB-C.
There is also a small physical switch on the side of the device. It is not fully clear what it does yet. However, many wireless adapters have issues when two drivers use different phones in the same car. The switch may help people move between paired phones more easily.

The FCC papers also show that the MA2 supports dual-band Wi-Fi like it works on 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. This is important in busy cities where many Wi-Fi signals can cause connection drops. Devices that only use one band usually just lose signal in crowded areas.
The MA2 gets power directly from the car’s USB port. It does not need an extra power adapter. Still, some older cars only give 500mA through their USB ports. That might not be enough for both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at the same time.
Price
The first MA1 launched at $90, but it often goes on sale for $45. Reports say the MA2 will likely stay near the original higher price. Today, there are other choices in the market. For example, the AAWireless TWO is now selling for $43.99 on Amazon, which is more than $20 off its normal price.
These adapters help cars that only support wired Android Auto. Even though wireless Android Auto started in 2018, many vehicles still require a cable.
Big Changes in the Car Industry
The timing of the MA2 is interesting. GM recently said that its 2028 models will no longer support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Instead, the company plans to use Google Built-in systems. This means some drivers may lose the option to mirror their phones on the car screen.

The wireless adapter market has grown a lot since 2020 and 2021, when early brands like AAWireless and Carsifi first appeared. Most of these products cost between $70 and $90. But the thing is, not all car brands work perfectly with third-party adapters. Some Honda and Mazda models are known to be picky.
The original MA1 received good reviews for stable performance, even though its fixed cable was a weak point. Since it had Google’s official approval many users trusted it. Now the MA2 seems ready to fix the biggest complaint by adding a removable cable.
Motorola has not yet confirmed the price or exact release date.
